Robert Rodriguez has emerged as the front-runner to direct the remake of John Carpenter’s ‘Escape From New York’ film.
The iconic director is in negotiation with Fox who obtained the remake rights from StudioCanal in 2015, GlammyNews.com can confirm.
Fox is targeting summer for the start of production of the film which will see John Carpenter as the Executive Producer.
The original ‘Escape From New York’, was released in 1981. The story is centered Plissken being recruited to rescue President of the United States of America (played by Donald Pleasence) after the Air Force One was hijacked and eventually crashed.
Rodriguez has directed many movies including ‘Desperado’, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mexico’, ‘Sin City’, ‘ From Dawn to Dusk’ among others.
