The Academy’s Statement on Harvey Weinstein
Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been booted out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science following the alleged sexual harassment and rape leveled against him.
The decision was taken by the Academy Board of Governors following an emergency meeting on Saturday about the fate of the filmmaker.
A statement released by the Academy partly reads the decision is to “…send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexual predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over.”
ABC News reported that Weinstein, 65, was also ousted from The Weinstein Co., the movie and TV production firm he co-founded.
