Patapaa Deserved VGMA 2018 ‘Song of the Year’ Award – Hammer

Celebrated Ghanaian music producer Nana Poku, better known as Hammer (of the Last 2) has added his voice to the brouhaha surrounding Patapaa’s VGMA 2018 snub.

Patapaa lost the “Song of the Year” award to Fancy Gadam for his song ‘Total Cheat’ which featured reigning rapper of the year Sarkodie.

According to Hammer, the “One Corner” hit-maker was cheated in the category which honour works based on popularity and the ability to generate excitement during the year under review.

He noted that “Popular means popular period. This should be unanimous [decision] by the Board and Academy” instead of asking the public to vote over this in a category like this.

Hammer further explained that votes could be bought and the wrong song/artiste may end up winning.

“This means you compromise the legitimacy of the awards just for the coins you’ll make from votes. NOT FAIR,” he added.

Read an unedited version of his post below:

How do u vote for the most popular song of the year… Popular means popular period. This shld be unanimous by the board and academy… Backed by data from radio stations. u can’t ask to vote for this! That’s how u end up with the wrong song. Cos votes can be bought.. just buy loads of credits get your team to embark on Heavy voting. This means u compromise the legitimacy of the awards just for the coins you’ll make from votes. NOT FAIR… No song was bigger than one corner in 2017.. why u dey play with ppls struggle and hustle? The boy chop the thing hands down. Stop playing with ppls hard work and emotions. NOT COOL
