What you need to know about Ghana’s government auction car sales

Ghana government auction car sales

Here are a few things you need to know about Ghana government auction car sales

The customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority is in charge of the organization of public auction exercises to sell general public overstayed vehicles.

The auctioning of overstayed vehicles is a way to generate revenue for the Ghanaian government and was established by  Section 93(1) and  59(2)  of the Customs Act in The 1992 Constitution of The Republic Of Ghana.

It should be noted that persons at the Presidency can only recommend people for consideration by the Commissioner-General of the GRA.

According to the customs officer, it is a normal practice for institutions/persons to send proposals to the customs division of GRA to be ”CONSIDERED” during allocation.

Therefore, an application for consideration CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be misconstrued to be a letter of allocation.

Auction vehicles by the Customs have over the years become a huge controversy because of the politics of how it is run.

Political party members and sympathizers rely on the auction regime to own cars and attempts to streamline things have always been resisted by those who want to benefit from the auction.

Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the general public that the Customs Division’s next Auction Sales of Vehicles and General Goods will come off as follows:
